Can’t afford an expensive buffing machine for your floor? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Check out this method to buff your floors to new by hand!

Clean the floor area with a dry mop to remove surface dust and dirt. The Wood Flooring Association states that a wet mop and excessive water can cause natural wood to expand and potentially crack. Vacuum the floor with a vacuum that doesn’t have a beater bar.

Purchase a deep cleaning product that is safe for your type of wood finish. Consult the manufacturer or flooring retailer to find the best product for your floors. Then apply a small amount of the cleaning compound to your floor, according to the instructions on the product. Work in small 3×3-foot sections so you can reach the entire area. Rub the floor surface gently with a terry cloth, working the cleaning product into the surface of the floor.

Buff the area with a soft buffing pad. Buffing pads are available at most hardware stores and in the automotive section at most discount stores. Use a circular motion to buff the area until you remove all residue from the cleaning product. The circular buffing motion restores shine to the floors.
